AliançaBiodiesel backs ANP restriction on biodiesel sales between distributors

Brazil's National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) has restored a 24-month ban on fuel distributors buying and selling biodiesel among themselves. AliançaBiodiesel, an alliance created by Aprobio and Abiove, welcomed the decision, saying it helps combat so-called "bionotas" — paper-only transactions with no corresponding physical movement of biodiesel or actual blending into diesel A. The alliance said the restriction strengthens product traceability and ensures the biodiesel used for mandatory blending is actually produced, sold and delivered under ANP rules. Aprobio president Jerônimo Goergen said such practices harm compliant companies, distort competition, reduce market transparency and hurt public revenues. Abiove executive president André Nassar said the decision brings the legal certainty and regulatory predictability the sector needs. The alliance advocates making the ban permanent after regulatory impact analysis, consultation and a public hearing.

Rio Grande do Sul creates sectoral chamber for oilseeds and biodiesel

Rio Grande do Sul's agriculture secretariat (Seapi) has instituted the Sectoral Chamber for the Oilseeds and Biodiesel Production Chain, a permanent consultative forum for dialogue among government, producers, cooperatives, industry, research institutions and other segments of the chain in the state. With the new chamber, Seapi now coordinates 24 sectoral chambers. The chamber will contribute to formulating, monitoring and evaluating public policies for the production, industrialization and marketing of oilseeds and biofuels, and promote research, technological innovation, knowledge transfer and good practices, as well as ways to overcome production, logistics, regulatory and market bottlenecks. Invited members include state secretariats, Famurs, Mapa, Fiergs, Farsul, Fetag, Ocergs, Emater/RS-Ascar, federal universities, Banrisul, Banco do Brasil, Sicredi, Aprosoja RS, Embrapa, Senar, Sebrae, Acergs, Aprobio, Abrascanola and Sindienergia-RS. Participation is unpaid public service. The creation was announced by secretary Marcio Madalena at the first national opening of the canola harvest.

Construction starts on R$1.25bn Soli3 biodiesel plant in Rio Grande do Sul

Construction has begun on the Soli3 biodiesel complex in Cruz Alta, in northwestern Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The R$1.25 billion project is a joint venture of cooperatives Cotrijal, Cotripal and Cotrisal. Earthworks are ahead of schedule and civil construction is due to start within days, with production expected to begin in May 2028. The plant will initially process only soybeans, with equipment adaptable to canola after minor adjustments. Cruz Alta was chosen for the railway running through the town, which the article describes as the state's only operating stretch. The partners also envisage replicating or expanding the plant in future. No capacity figure is given in the article.

Canola area more than doubles in Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul as harvest opens

Rio Grande do Sul held the first national opening of the canola harvest in Ijuí on October 13, with the oilseed's area in the state estimated at 353397 hectares in 2026 — up 102.64% from 174394 hectares in 2025, according to Emater/RS-Ascar. Projected production is about 572000 tonnes at an average yield of 1619 kg per hectare, and the state accounts for more than 90% of Brazil's canola output. Driven by industry demand for biodiesel feedstock, 3tentos — one of the organizers — has invested R$60 million in its Ijuí plant to produce biodiesel from canola and is encouraging more than 100000 hectares of planting this year.

Brazil biodiesel exports nearly triple in September to 22900 m³

Brazil exported just under 22900 cubic metres of biodiesel in September, almost triple the August volume and double the 11300 m³ shipped in September 2025, according to MDIC data cited by BiodieselBR — the biggest monthly volume in 15 months. With shipments topping 100000 m³ in the year to date, Brazil is on the verge of an annual export record.

Brazil biodiesel margins narrow again in week 40 as plant costs outpace price hikes

In the 40th week of 2026 (40S), Brazilian plants sold biodiesel at an average of R$5,622.84 per cubic metre, up 2% from the previous week, rebounding after the sector broke a rising streak, according to ANP data cited by BiodieselBR. The price is up 14.8% over 17 weeks of near-uninterrupted gains since mid-June, moving back toward early-year levels — but still about R$300 (5.3%) short of the near-R$6 per litre levels seen at the turn of 2025-2026. BiodieselBR notes that rising plant costs outpaced the price increases applied over the past week, squeezing margins again.

Cepea: Soybean sack down 3.3% in Paranaguá last week as stronger real cheapens domestic soy

Brazil's soybean prices fell last week as the real's appreciation against the dollar cheapened soy on the domestic market, according to a survey by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea). The 60-kg soybean sack averaged R$ 148.24 in the Paraná market last week, 3.8% lower than the week before; at the port of Paranaguá, the decline was milder at 3.3%, with the sack quoted at R$ 155.46. The commercial dollar fell 4.5% over the same period, based on the Central Bank rate, and the slide deepened after the first round of Brazil's presidential elections. Cepea noted that export volumes have been helping to support prices.

BNDES approves R$150M loan to Soli3 cooperative for biodiesel market entry

Brazil's development bank BNDES approved a R$150 million credit line for Soli3 União Central Cooperativa — a joint venture of the Rio Grande do Sul cooperatives Cotrijal, Cotripal and Cotrisal — to finance machinery and equipment for a soybean processing plant under construction. The loan, under the Fundo Clima – Máquinas Verdes program (the Climate Fund linked to the Environment Ministry and operated by BNDES), is part of a R$1.25 billion project to bring the cooperative into the biodiesel market. The credit has a two-year drawdown period, extendable by 12 months, and supports low-carbon transition and climate-adaptation goals alongside adding value to members' soybeans.
